A Welcome message from our Head Teacher – Miss Vicci Godbold
As the proud Headteacher of Thorndown Primary School, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you.
I liken Thorndown to a small village; the children, staff, parents, grandparents, governors and our many visitors are all part of a supportive and caring community. We are a highly inclusive school and ensure that everyone is able succeed in a place where they feel safe, happy and valued.
As I start my sixth year in this wonderful place of learning, I am amazed with the success that our previous five years have seen. Our KS2 and KS1 SATs, in addition to the percentage of our children who achieve a ‘Good Level of Development’ Reception are improving year on year. The Year 1 Phonics scores also continue to go from strength to strength. (See our results page.) Through our links with Cambridge Maths Hub and University of Bedfordshire, we support other schools from within the county and beyond, and welcome many visitors to share our Thorndown magic.
We love our school and are very proud of our achievements. We place great importance on creating a learning community for both children and adults. Our desire is that every pupil is able to reflect on their schooling at Thorndown as time of hard work and great achievement. We know that Thorndown is a place where children develop a passion for learning, a thirst for knowledge and a curiosity about the world in which they live.
Safeguarding children is very, very important to us. We take great care in ensuring that we follow best practice and procedures.
Children have a voice at our school. They are encouraged to help make decisions about changes we are making. Some children are chosen to be on the School Council or Eco Team after a full democratic election. We also have Junior Travel Ambassadors and Artsmark Ambassadors.
Our dedicated Friends of Thorndown organisation is a much valued team who help with various activities in school and with trips outside of school, as well as raising considerable funds to enhance the learning experiences of our children. We regularly welcome visitors and volunteers who share their time and expertise.
Thorndown is a pretty special place… well, we think so, and we welcome you to visit and take a good look around. I have an open door policy and you will always be welcome here. You are sure to get a feel for what we are all about as soon as you walk in! Our many parents and visitors agree!
