Admissions

Children from the ages of 4 to 11 attend Thorndown Primary School. They are able to start school in the Reception class at the beginning of the academic year in which they become five years old. Our admission arrangements are planned to ensure that the children settle quickly into the routines of school and develop personal confidence.

Children may enter other classes in our school at any time during the course of the year. We try to make a transition between schools as easy as possible and ensure that new pupils are paired up with a ‘buddy’ to help them settle in.

We are always happy to show prospective families around our school and you are welcome to contact us on 01480 375103 if you would like to make an appointment.

The formal admission procedure, including the exercise of parental choice, is dealt with by the Local Authority:

Admission Arrangements for Pupils with SEND or Disabilities.
Thorndown Primary School complies fully with the Equality Act (2010) and the School Admissions Code (2012) in the arrangements for the admission of disabled pupils and those with SEND. No pupil will be denied admission because of gender, creed, race, physical ability or academic achievement. The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. We take all steps possible to provide effective educational provision for all children. Where a child is disabled, the school will make reasonable adjustments and provide auxiliary aids or services to ensure that no disabled child is placed at a substantial disadvantage compared to other pupils. If child is transferring to school with an EHCP (Education, Health, Care Plan) then continuation of the support the child received will be negotiated with the appropriate member of the Local Authority to ensure needs can be met.
