Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended our Maths Morning, which was a great success. The adults found it very useful to learn how we teach the children multiplication and division and the children thoroughly enjoyed having visitors! We will be holding more workshops in the future after school, but in the meantime, please see the presentation slides from the session.

On Monday 3rd November Sally Elding from Cambridgeshire’s ICT service, came in to speak with KS2 about keeping themselves safe online. She also had a discussion with some parents about how to ensure they support their children at home; thank you to those who came. Sally left us with a powerpoint and some helpful websites, which we have added to our school website. Technology provides many advantages for our children and we can work together to ensure they are accessing these safely.

Have you seen a copy of the Thorndown Chronicle? The newspaper is put together by the pupils and sold for 50p to raise funds for a quiet reading and writing area in the new playground. Here is just a little taster of what you can find in the paper:-
“I am really enjoying being in year 3. I like Mathletics on the computer, it has fun and interesting games to learn maths. I like getting points to get a certificate. I like to play the games against other children, it’s cool. There are lots of different games to try and you can do a different one every day.”

We are all very busy in school at this time and the children were set the challenge of composing a scene which focused on “Busy Hands” engaged on any task of their choice. We used watercolour wash and black pen fine line. We had previously studied how hands have been depicted by famous artists and sculptors.
Have a look at the photo gallery to see some fantastic examples.
A comprehensive list of diary dates for the whole year has been sent out to all Parents to help. To view a copy please click here.
We have lots of after school activities planned for this term including; Ballet, Street Dance, Football, Coding, Chess, Karate, Tag Rugby, French, Choir, Drumming, Mad Science and Film Club.

We all arrived safely in the mist of the tree tops! Our first activity was the assault course- as you can see William became stretched through the tunnel and we had races under the nets. “Thorndown are legendary,” we have been told by Hilltop staff! We are one of their favourites. The children have been brilliant- their manners and their manner are highly commendable. We are very proud of them all.
We had great fun playing owls and mice, which is a hide and seek by torch light. Guess what? The teachers won as we could hide AND stay still and silent!
Tomorrow we are climbing and leaping through the tree tops!
